Join SAPAAC & H4A for a talk from Buck Gee, Founder of Ascend Foundation for Pan Asian Leaders and retired Vice President and General Manager of the Data Center Business Unit at Cisco. He will share the data from his study with Stanford University which showed Asian Americans are the least likely to be promoted at the middle management level and above. Mo Fong, Director of Google Technical Solutions for Assistant and Search, will discuss practical tips for mid-career professionals and TOPPA, the program she helped start at Google to create community and overcome challenges in career progression for its Asian American employees.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Buck Gee Stanford BSEE’72 and MSEE’72, HBS MBA ‘80
Mr. Gee retired in 2008 from Cisco Systems, where he was Vice President and General Manager of the Data Center Business Unit. He joined Cisco with its 2004 acquisition of Andiamo Systems where Mr. Gee was President and CEO. His career spans 35 years in Silicon Valley in engineering, marketing, and general management. He has taught computer engineering courses at Stanford University and Howard University. In 2010, he co-founded the "Advanced Leadership Program for Asian American Executives", an executive education program at the Stanford Business School. The program is the first and only program offered at a major business school specifically tailored for development of Asian American executive leaders in corporate business. He has written extensively about the dearth of Asian American executives in Silicon Valley, and his analysis of EEOC data has found that Asian Americans are the least likely to be promoted into management.

Mo Fong, Stanford ‘95 ChemE, ‘96 MA Education and HBS '02
Mo has been at Google for the past 12 years and is currently the Director of Google Technical Solutions for Google Assistant and Search. Previously, she was the Director of Google's K12 Education Outreach and also in Finance as the Chief Compliance Officer for Google Wallet. Prior to Google, Mo worked at PayPal in risk management and was the Executive Director of the Stanford Educational Leadership Initiatives (https://seli.stanford.edu/). Mo is a current board member for 100kin10.org, the National Girls Collaborative Project, and the Stanford Asian Pacific American Alumni Club. She is also on Google’s Asian Senior Executive Council and a sponsor of the Asian Googler Network and TOPPA. Outside of work, Mo is busy trying to keep up with her two sons (8 and 10 years old) and is passionate about equity issues in K-12 education including bringing more girls and underrepresented groups into STEM fields and making schools a better place to work for teachers.
