ABOUT PEGGY SHEPARD:
Peggy Shepard is co-founder and executive director of WE ACT for Environmental Justice and has a long history of community-based planning to address environmental protection and environmental health policy locally and nationally. She works on environmental justice in urban communities — to ensure that the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment extends to all. She serves on the Executive Committee of the National Black Environmental Justice Network and the Board of Advisors of the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health and was the first female chair of the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Her work has received broad recognition: the Jane Jacobs Medal from the Rockefeller Foundation for Lifetime Achievement, the 10th Annual Heinz Award For the Environment, the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award from the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, and Honorary Doctorates from Smith College and Lawrence University.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:

Prior to every U.S. presidential election, transition teams prepare policy proposals for the first 100 days. Throughout this year’s campaign, the candidates voiced dramatically different views on climate change, environmental regulations, racism and integrating climate goals in economic recovery.  This series of workshops will look at potential risks and opportunities for action on climate change by the Biden administration.

Led by: Rand Wentworth, Louis and Gabrielle Bacon Senior Fellow in Environmental Leadership; President Emeritus of the Land Trust Alliance.

Hosts: Bacon Environmental Fellowship at the Center for Public Leadership; Environment and Natural Resource Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs; Climate, Energy & Environment PIC (CEE-PIC), a student organization at HKS.
