The San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, 5 Riparian View, Irvine, CA 92612
Join Bettina Eastman, a highly experienced wildlife biologist and birding guide, on a birding tour of the Sanctuary. She hopes to show us some of the birds that have nested in the area and some of the returning migrants that call the SJWS home for the winter. We may even see some species that are using the marsh as a rest stop on their migration to Central and South America.

Cost: $25, members; $30, non-members (includes a box lunch)
The San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary (SJWS), owned and operated by the Irvine Ranch Water District is a 300 acre preserve around a series of ponds, nestled in the middle of urbanization yet insulated from it. Wildlife is attracted to the area because of the native plants and the restrictions placed on its use, such as no dogs, no bicycles and no fishing. These rules allow wildlife to exist practically undisturbed.
The level trails are of decomposed granite or pea gravel and are considered to be an easy walk. Wear comfortable shoes or sneakers and be sure to put on sunscreen and a hat. A limited number of binoculars for use during the tour will be provided by Ms. Eastman to those reserving them in advance.
We will have a light lunch of sandwiches/wraps, salad and a drink at noon catered by Mendocino Farms, Irvine, with vegetarian and vegan options.
