LAX Airfield Tour & Lunch at LAX Encounter Restaurant & Bar

Join us for a Behind the Scenes LAX Airfield Tour and lunch at LAX Encounter Restaurant & Bar!

Explore LAX from the inside. Take a blast to the past at the Flightpath Museum and see how aviation technology and fashion has changed over the years. Visit a flight simulation lab. Go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the LAX airfield, and watch planes take off on the runways from the comfort of an air-conditioned charter bus parked just feet from the runway (tour a parked airplane from the outside and observe airplane prep from the airfield). LAX staff and volunteers will speak about airplanes, airport operations, and the environmental issues associated with airport operations and what LAX has done to protect and restore the local environment, and reduce noise and other impacts on the surrounding community. Enjoy lunch at the landmark LAX Encounter Restaurant; and visit the 200-acre natural wildlife preserve, which supports 43 acres of original dunes habitat, the largest remaining coastal dune area in Southern California, and is home to endangered El Segundo Blue Butterflies and fairy shrimp.

Tour guides: Docents from Flightpath Museum, LAX Operations Superintendent, and LAX Environmental Specialist and Harvard alumnus Peggy Nguyen.

This event is limited to 40 participants.

Deadline to register: Friday, January 15, 2009
