In 1995, Chugach School District was one of the lowest performing school districts in Alaska. New leaders introduced a novel education program that featured advancing students at their own rate based on their performance level, not their grade level. By 2001 Chugach was the highest performing school district in Alaska and one of the first two school districts in the nation to win the Baldrige Award, the nation’s highest award for organizational excellence.

Glenn Noreen, HBS MBA ‘82, is the Executive Director of Barack Obama Charter School, which is based on the Chugach model. At this roundtable, Glenn will present the performance-based learning program design and report on his recent trip to Kunskapsskolan in Sweden. Kunskapsskolan is operating 33 performance-based voucher schools and is opening two schools in Britain this fall. This education roundtable is free and will begin with a potluck lunch.

Cost: Free (bring an item for the potluck lunch; drinks and utensils will be provided)
