This coming April, the Harvard community, alumni, friends, family, and undergraduates alike, are invited to participate in a unique public service initiative, inspired by Harvard President Drew Faust’s exhortation to apply "our knowledge to help advance the well-being of people in the world beyond our walls." Called "Harvard Serves," this public service initiative hopes to mobilize all 330,000 Harvard alumni and the extended Harvard family – including the 12,500 of us in Southern California - to volunteer our time and efforts in our own communities. Local alumni have signed up 18 area organizations offering opportunities to volunteer in an exciting range of projects: from ecological, to educational, to food delivery, to inner-city youth, to music in underserved communities.
The list of participating organizations includes:

826LA, Venice and East LA
Barack Obama Charter School
California Native Plant Society
Center for the Pacific Asian Family
Global Education, Peru
Go Green
Knitting for Charity
Levitt Pavilion-MacArthur Park
Los Angeles Conservation Corps
Los Angeles County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
Los Angeles Maritime Academy
Peace4Kids
Southern California Special Olympics
Venice Community Housing Corporation
World Child Project, Mexico
YMCA, San Gabriel Valley
Zeitgeist Community Learning Center

Come meet representatives of these organizations and volunteer. Join classmates and fellow alumni - plus, one lucky attendee will win the door prize of a week’s membership in the Sports Club LA.

If you are unable to attend the kick-off and would still like to volunteer, please sign up through https://hcsc.clubs.harvard.edu/article.html?aid=150.
