Lifestyle changes such as eating well, moving more, stressing less, or loving more, have been documented to help prevent and often reverse the progression of a wide range of the most common and costly chronic diseases. In this talk we will aim to understand the biological mechanisms common to many chronic diseases that are affected by lifestyle choices—for better and for worse.

In addition, we will aim to understand the scientific evidence that lifestyle medicine can stop or reverse the progression of many chronic diseases.

Dean Ornish, MD, is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Ornish received his medical training in internal medicine from the Baylor College of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is considered to be one of the founders of the field of lifestyle medicine, which aims to use a scientific and clinical approach to determine the impact of a healthy lifestyle in treating various chronic diseases such as coronary artery disease. He is the author of multiple books such as Eat More, Weigh Less, UnDo It, and The Spectrum, some of which have become New York Times bestsellers.

Dr. Ornish was recognized as “one of the 125 most extraordinary University of Texas alumni in the past 125 years;” by TIME magazine as a “TIME 100 Innovator;” by LIFE magazine as “one of the fifty most influential members of his generation;” by People magazine as “one of the most interesting people of the year;” and by Forbes magazine as “one of the world’s seven most powerful teachers.”
