The Cheech has the largest and only permanent collection of Chicano and Mexican American art in the country. It is a public-private partnership between the City of Riverside and comedian Cheech Marin—one of the world’s foremost collectors of Chicano art and part of the comedy duo Cheech and Chong. Before Mr. Marin's donation, his collection was exhibited at well-known museums across the nation. Featured artists include: Frank Romero, Patssi Valdez, Wayne Alaniz Healy, Sandy Rodriguez, Carlos Almaraz, Judithe Hernández, and Ignacio Gomez. Southern California artist Ignacio Gomez is father of Harvard alumni John Greg Gomez AB 91 and will be joining this special event. The Cheech is part of the Riverside Art Museum (RAM) and next to the Mission Inn in Riverside's historic downtown. The RAM is housed in a National Historic 1929 building designed by Hearst Castle and AIA Gold Medal-winning architect Julia Morgan. Registration cost includes timed admission entrance to both museums and a docent-led tour of The Cheech. Free one-site and adjacent parking. https://riversideartmuseum.org/visit/the-cheech-marin-center-for-chicano-art-culture.
