The Aerospace Corporation is an American nonprofit corporation that operates a federally funded research and development center providing independent technical oversight and objective analysis for U.S. national security space programs. The corporation provides technical guidance and advice on all aspects of space missions to military, civil, and commercial customers including NASA, NOAA, and private enterprise in addition to developing space warfighting strategy. Founded in 1960 in Southern California, the Corporation currently employees over 4500 scientists, engineers, economists, and researchers at multiple locations in the US. The Corporation's current budget is about $1.6 billion, a number that is likely to increase next year with the considerably enlarged proposed defense appropriation.
