This session will examine why existing copyright rules are struggling to address both the use of copyrighted works to train AI systems and the legal status of AI-generated outputs. By surveying current legal debates and approaches, the talk will highlight key gaps, uncertainties, and tensions in the law. It will also consider what these unresolved questions mean for creators, technologists, and the public.
