ABOUT JAMES E.R. LOW
Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, James went on to attend Los Angeles Pierce College, University of Southern California, Harvard Business School and University of San Diego School of Law. During his undergraduate career, he served as student body president, Interfraternity Council president, and rowed for USC Men’s Crew. He also spent many hours advocating for higher education in both Sacramento and Washington, DC, encouraging the California state legislature and the U.S. Congress to spend more of their attention on fixing education.
James grew up in wealthy surroundings in Los Angeles, where he was the third generation of a large real estate management company. During and after college, James worked with a series of his family’s companies, serving in various financial positions over the years. His latest breakthrough came in 2008 when he sold his real estate development company and shifted his attention to restructuring his grandfather’s single family office. Recently, James expanded his reach by launching a highly specialized financial practice at Northwestern Mutual, where he works today.
James is a family man and his professional and personal lifestyle offers an unusually broad exposure to many industries, many in which he is actively involved. James strives to be a model citizen and regularly tries to answer the call to social responsibility, through active civil service, at all levels.
James currently serves on the board of various nonprofit organizations, including the Harvard Club of Southern California, California Patrons of the Vatican Museums, Santa Monica Mountains Fund (in partnership with the National Park Service) and as a Trustee of Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. He has been an appointed USC Presidential Ambassador under Steven Sample and C. L. Max Nikias and has served as a special advisor to Lexington College President, Kelly O’Leary, in Chicago, Illinois.
More recent philanthropic leadership positions include chairman of the board of directors for the Foundation for Pierce College and President of the Pierce College Alumni Association. Previously, James has been involved with the International Circle of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, the Society of Fellows at the Huntington Library in San Marino, and the USC Associates. He has also been working with a national foundation to support the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, Italy.
James currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Audrey, daughter, Alice, and black lab, Vienna.
